Technology is a fast changing thingy. It has the annoying habit of changing dramatically right when you managed to figure it out. And you have to start over from scratch. At the moment, the Windows world is moving to .NET, while most people still didn't properly comprehend the COM/DCom model.
Unfortunately, the new technologies do not get ported backwards many times to previous platforms. Is it a way for Microsoft to sell new versions of the OS that do not necessarily add dramatically in terms of functionality? Or is it an acknowledgement that the software became so complex that, instead of patching, it's easier to burn everything and start from scratch?
